5 Questions with John Mekiamis
As we launch Aegean to get us into the Greek spirit, I invited John Mekiamis, who I met in Mykonos back in 2020 while shopping for great European fashion in the island. As some of you might already know, Mykonos is my second home in the summer where I spend time getting to know the local culture and people. I find creativity and travel go hand-in-hand, so when I travel I always like to connect with local creatives. Learn about one of my favorite islands in this interview below.
1. Hi John! Please tell us a bit about yourself to start.
My name is John Mekiamis and I am a Greek content creator based in London. I have worked with many prestigious brands on exciting projects and when I am not in front of a camera filming videos and taking photos I work with companies as a consultant. Influencer marketing, buying and pr are some of my favorite subjects.
2. What is your favorite things to do in Mykonos and why?
My perspective on how to spend a day in Mykonos is not very common. Usually you are going to find me in Capari beach. Capari is my favorite unorganized beach of the island and I can go from the morning until the sunset. After that, a nice dinner in Noema and a walk for ice cream. When I want to party, Alemagou and Scorpios are my first options
3. Is there any hidden place out of the touristic radar that you can recommend us?
There are so many great unorganized beaches on the island and I believe that you should explore some of them. Capari as I mention on the previous question is my favorite one. Agios Sostis and Mirsini are great as well. The best Greek restaurant on the island is Nikolas, some may you already know it, some may not. It’s the most beautiful Greek tavern with great food and great hospitality. Sunset hour is recommended.
4. What's your favorite place to spend a fun evening with friends in the island?
Mykonos has the most beautiful sunset. During July and August the sky becomes so warm, almost red and I try not to miss even one summer sunset. Even I will stay on the beach until late, or I will go to Little Venice for the first drink of the evening. 180 sunset bar is also a great place where you can have fun with your friends.
5.How do you balance living between the UK & Greece and what's next in your agenda?
London is my favorite city in the world and I am very happy to live here, but I never forget Greece. Even I have to travel back for work or to spend time with my family, it’s just 3 hours flight. As we are approaching the new fall season, many new ideas and projects are coming to life, but for now I have to keep them as a secret.
